The Prussian steam locomotive class G 8.1, out of which almost 5,000 units were built, with a power output of 1,260 hp and a top speed of 55 km/h, was mainly used in freight trains and heavy shunting services.
After World War I, the Italian State Railways received 45 locomotives as reparations and integrated them as class 460 in their locomotive fleet.
